Les 7 règles essentielles
1
IT n'a pas de pluriel direct. On ne dit jamais "its" au pluriel. Le pluriel de IT est toujours THEY (sujet) ou THEM (objet).
2
THEY = sujet. Utilisez THEY quand le groupe de mots est sujet de la phrase : They are ready.
3
THEM = objet. Utilisez THEM quand le groupe est complément d'objet : I can see them.
4
THEIR = possessif pluriel. ITS devient THEIR au pluriel : their colour / their size / their price.
5
Accord du verbe. Avec THEY, le verbe prend la forme plurielle : They are (not They is) / They have (not They has).
6
THEY singulier inclusif. En anglais moderne, THEY peut référer à une personne seule de genre non spécifié : Someone forgot their bag.
7
Contexte professionnel. En e-mail, réunion ou rapport, privilégiez le nom complet la première fois : The reports… They show…
