Un verbe transitif introduit un complément d'objet direct ou indirect. Un verbe intransitif n'a pas de complément d'objet et apporte directement le sens à son sujet.

Verbes Transitifs
Définition : Les verbes transitifs sont des verbes qui nécessitent un objet direct pour compléter leur signification. Un objet direct est un mot ou un groupe de mots qui reçoit l’action du verbe.
Formation :
- Sujet + Verbe Transitif + Objet Direct
Exemples :
- She reads a book.
- « reads » est un verbe transitif et « a book » est l’objet direct.
- They built a house.
- « built » est un verbe transitif et « a house » est l’objet direct.
- He loves music.
- « loves » est un verbe transitif et « music » est l’objet direct.
Verbes Intransitifs
Définition : Les verbes intransitifs sont des verbes qui n’ont pas besoin d’objet direct pour compléter leur sens. L’action du verbe n’est pas dirigée vers quelque chose ou quelqu’un.
Formation :
- Sujet + Verbe Intransitif
Exemples :
- She sleeps.
- « sleeps » est un verbe intransitif, il n’y a pas d’objet direct.
- The baby cries.
- « cries » est un verbe intransitif.
- They arrived early.
- « arrived » est un verbe intransitif.
Verbes à Double Fonction
Certains verbes peuvent être à la fois transitifs et intransitifs, selon le contexte.
Exemples :
- He runs every morning. (intransitif)
- He runs a small business. (transitif)
- « runs » est intransitif dans la première phrase et transitif dans la deuxième.
- She sings beautifully. (intransitif)
- She sings a song. (transitif)
- « sings » est intransitif dans la première phrase et transitif dans la deuxième.
