Exercices d'analyse de texte litteraire en anglais
Ces exercices sont bases sur des extraits authentiques de romans anglophones. Ils developpent la comprehension fine, le vocabulaire contextuel et l'analyse litteraire.
Exercice 1 : Analyse de l'incipit de The Great Gatsby
"In my younger and more vulnerable years my father gave me some advice that I've been turning over in my mind ever since. 'Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone,' he told me, 'just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages that you've had.'"
Questions :
What tense is "I've been turning over"? What does it imply about time?
Find a phrasal verb and explain its meaning in context.
What is the mood/tone of this opening? Cite evidence.
Reponses : 1) Present perfect continuous — action commencee dans le passe, toujours active a ce jour. 2) "turning over in my mind" = remacher, reflechir profondement. 3) Ton reflechif et nostalgique — "younger and more vulnerable years" indique un regard retrospectif depuis un point present plus mature.
Exercice 2 : Identifier les figures de style
Lisez ces extraits et identifiez la figure de style (metaphore, comparaison, ironie, personnification, etc.) :
"The fog comes on little cat feet." (Carl Sandburg) → Figure :
"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times." (Dickens) → Figure :
"All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others." (Orwell) → Figure :
"Her eyes were like stars." → Figure :

Exercice 4 : Resume en anglais
Apres chaque session de lecture, ecrivez 3 a 5 phrases resumant ce que vous avez lu. Utilisez les temps narratifs (past simple, past continuous) :
Modele : "In today's reading, the main character decided to leave the village. While he was walking through the forest, he met a mysterious woman. She told him about the secret..."
Exercice 5 : Dialogue a completer
Completez ce dialogue entre deux personnages qui discutent d'un livre qu'ils ont lu :
A: "Have you finished Gone Girl yet?"
B: "Yes! I __________ (finish) it last night. I __________ (not / see) the twist coming at all!"
A: "What did you think of the main character?"
B: "She __________ (be) fascinating but terrifying. I've never read a character like her."
