1 Was avec I, he, she, it et tout sujet singulier.

She was promoted.The contract was signed.

2 Were avec you, we, they et tout sujet pluriel.

They were trained.The documents were sent.

3 Toujours utiliser la 3e forme verbale (V3), jamais V2.

4 Seuls les verbes transitifs (avec objet direct) peuvent être mis au passif.

He was arrived. (arrive = intransitif) → Impossible !

5 "By + agent" est optionnel. On peut toujours l'omettre.

The door was closed. (agent inconnu/non pertinent)

6 Négation : was/were + not + PP. Contractions : wasn't / weren't.

The report wasn't submitted on time.

7 Question : inverser l'ordre — Was/Were + sujet + PP ?

Was the contract signed? — Were they informed?

8 Was + ing (past continuous) ≠ was + PP (passive). Ne pas confondre !

was writing = était en train d'écrire — was written = a été écrit

9 La voix passive est très courante dans les écrits formels et professionnels.

Rapports, emails d'entreprise, journaux, comptes-rendus de réunion.

10 Transformation : objet actif → sujet passif ; sujet actif → "by" passif.

Tom wrote the report. → The report was written by Tom.
